Monday started with a new partnership between Morecrofts and Jay. Morecrofts are an electrical and mechanical service provider based in Chester Green in Derby, they agreed to provide Jay with financial support to help fund his extensive programme. A huge help and greatly appreciated by all of Team Clarke, plus it’s also fantastic for a Derby based company to get behind home grown talent.
Tuesday morning Jay and I drove down to Raynes Park (an AELTC owned venue) to spend the week on court with Sir Murray, we were also joined by Jay’s Strength and Conditioning coach Ian Aylward. The club is set in a stunning location and has changed so much from the days of British Wimbledon Wildcard Playoffs, it now has 3 outdoor hard, 3 indoor hard under a bubble, a 100m strip of running track and nice changing facilities.
It was an excellent week thoroughly enjoyed by both camps. Firstly, it was great to see Andy bouncing back after a tough end to the year. Secondly, it was good to see Jay on court and actively competing with Andy. The on court the sessions were mainly points based and Jay even managed to win a set or two!
Jay invested a lot of time in his off-court development this week with a comprehensive strength and conditioning programme with Ian as well as physio sessions at the NTC and a podiatrist consultation at the Park Hospital in Wimbledon.
On the final day of practice, we were joined court side but Jared Mitchell (a Director of Morecrofts). Jared had a surreal experience watching Jay compete with the former World Number 1 with so few other spectators.
On Wednesday Jay and I are heading off to India for his last competitions of the year, keep your fingers crossed for him and watch out for the next blog…
